MOVING ABOARD

March 25 was Moving Day! With a car stuffed beyond the brim, we officially moved out of our 26th St. home in Boise, a bittersweet goodbye to our Boise friends and family, and the home our family lived in and loved for the past 10 years. That evening we stepped aboard our new home, Beagle Spirit, waiting for us in Seattle’s Elliott Bay Marina.

These first 10 days have been spent unpacking, organizing, and taking inventory of pieces and parts in all the nooks and crannies of this boat. We are adjusting to the function of the small galley and have successfully produced several meals and mostly organized the cupboards and our chest frig and freezer. We enjoyed the sense of normalcy watching the Final Four on our TV, chatting with our parents and kids, and getting our workouts in.

Brett successfully completed his first boat project—replacing the electric motor in our guest head, which is now ready for business! Eager for the weather to warm, we have mounted the BBQ, a paddleboard rack, tested out our sunshade, and created space for our folding bikes in the aft storage locker (aka, the garage). We have had fun exploring the Seattle surroundings—a night out at the symphony, dinner at Serafina, Sunday morning pastries at Petit Pierre, and an afternoon hike to Magnolia Park. Lesson of the week: what is not lashed down on the deck will blow away in a gust.

Archie, the beagle, has been adapting to his new environs like a champ. He’s found spots where he likes to rest, loves his walks and new sniffs, content in his crate when we go out. Portable steps to help him manage transit between cockpit and cabin arrived today.
