Our Story

We are Brett and Kay Hunt. We embark on this cruising lifestyle and adventure after spending most of our lives in Boise, Idaho where we met, married, and raised our two kids, Ellie and Aaron who also love to sail. We had occasional sailing experiences growing up and on trips over the years but had our first official education in sailing in 2008 in Anacortes, WA, which is when the seed was planted that full time cruising might be something we would enjoy.

That same year, we purchased our first sailboat, the Flying Beagle, a Catalina Capri 22. On the Flying Beagle, we enjoyed 15 years of sailing on Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho as well as great family adventures on Lake Tahoe, Flathead, Pend-Oreille, and Coeur d’alene Lakes. Those trips, along with fantastic sailing charters in the San Juans and BVI’s further convinced us to pursue a goal of full-time cruising.

And now for the beagle! Archie is our intrepid mascot and boat dog! He is the original Flying Beagle and the name Beagle Spirit celebrates the nature of Archie and the beagle breed. Although as an aging Beagle, Archie has now moved off the boat to live with Grandma and Grandpa, his spirit continues to inspire us.  Beagles have deep love for their family, for exploring new places and meeting new people (and animals), for facing the wind and basking in the sun, and for a comfy rest after an exciting day!
